Australian Prime Minister condemns the rallies

Sydney (Australia) – Protest marches against Indian migrants were held in 20 cities across Australia. Demonstrators absurdly claimed that “Indian migrants are causing unemployment in Australia.” After Britons, Indians form the second-largest immigrant group in the country. As of June 2023, Australia had 8.04 lakh residents of Indian origin out of a total population of 27.2 million. “If Indians constitute only 3.2 percent of the population, why are they being blamed for unemployment and rising inflation in Australia?” asked members of the Indian community. In recent times, attacks against Indians in Australia have also risen.
1. Both ruling and opposition politicians in Australia acknowledge the positive contribution of the Indian community.
2. However, radical Whites, extremist Christians and the far-right strongly oppose Indians, believing that no non-Christian should be allowed in Australia.
3. The organisers of the rally, under the name March for Australia, circulated a pamphlet claiming that more Indians migrated to Australia in the last five years than Greeks and Italians combined in the past 100 years.
4. People of Indian origin in Australia are largely supporters of the ruling Labour Party, which is seen as reformist and left-leaning. The far-right fears their votes may influence the next election.
5. The far-right in Australia supports the opposition Liberal Party and therefore opposes Indian-origin residents.
Protesters are ‘Neo-Nazis’ – Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that those protesting are linked to neo-Nazi elements. Members of the National Socialist Network, a group known as neo-Nazis, took part in the demonstrations. On social media, a user described supporters of these rallies as misogynists, white supremacists, climate change deniers and Trump supporters.
(Neo-Nazi refers to those who follow extreme racist and brutal ideologies similar to the Nazis of Germany.)
Editorial PerspectiveNot only in Australia but across the world, opposition and attacks against Indian migrants are increasing. To crush the conspiracy of radical Whites and extremist Christians behind these attacks, the Government of India must take strict measures. |
