Hyderabad (Telangana) – Shri Ganesh idol in an attire resembling that of the State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has been installed by a public Ganesh Festival committee in Habeeb Nagar. The idol has been dressed in jeans, T-shirt, shoes and a green shawl around its neck. The dress was inspired from an old march on foot in which CM had participated. This idol has been installed by Telangana Fishermen Sahakari Mahasangh’s President and Congress leader Mettu Sai Kumar. Goshamahal’s devout Hindu MLA T Raja Singh and local Hindus have protested against such depiction.

The Shri Ganesh idol is based on the concept of ‘Telangana Rising’, said Mettu Sai Kumar while talking to the press. He further stated that in the last few years, idols were made based on the concept of films; but this year, the scene was selected to depict development of Telangana and CM’s inspiration.

MLA T Raja Singh opposes

MLA T Raja Singh has stated that the idol has insulted Hindus’ faith. He submitted a letter to Hyderabad Police Commissioner  and complained that though he respects CM, he is not God for people. Such kind of portrayal is hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. He demanded immediate action by the Police, removal of the pandal and maintaining communal harmony.

Displeasure of Locals

This incident has gone viral on social media and the local residents and devotees consider it as a religious abuse. A local resident expressed his opinion as Ganesh festival is a holy festival. Showing Deity in such a manner is wrong and it is like making mockery of the traditions.

Editorial Perspective

Lack of ‘Dharmashikshan’ amongst Hindus is the reason that Hindus personify their Deities. Followers of other religions never insult their places or objects of faith in this manner; but Hindus are constantly doing so. Imparting ‘Dharmashishan’ to Hindus has become imperative to prevent such things.
