Islamic country Indonesia imposes limits on the volume of loudspeakers

Jakarta(Indonesia) – It has become common in Indonesia to play on loudspeakers and DJs. Sometimes due to the loud volume the glass panes break, walls crack, objects begin to shake. Now the Administration has curbed the decibel. They have provided guideline for the time and place to use loudspeakers. Former governor of Jawa has clarified that the rule has been imposed for the health and safety of people. To maintain peace loud noise must be controlled.

In July the local Islamic Council had issued a fatwa (a decision given by a person or organisation recognized by Islamic law). They had clarified that too loud noise during marriage, processions or any other occasion, cause annoyance to people, disturb worship or can also create chaos on the road and therefore it will be considered ‘haraam’ (anti-Islamic).

The volume limit on the loudspeakers

1. The volume should not cross 120 decibels

2. For protest march or processions the volume will be 85 decibels

3.  Complete ban on the loudspeakers where there are schools, hospitals and mosques
