The most contaminated water supply is in Bhendibazar, Masjid Bunder, Bandra, Santa Cruz, Colaba and Cuffe Parade in Mumbai

Conclusion of the annual environment report of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC)

Mumbai – From the annual report of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation/MMC, the most contaminated water supply reaches Bhendibazar, Masjid Bunder, Bandra, Santa Cruz, as well as Colaba and Cuffe Parade areas. But the percentage of contaminated water in Marine Drive, Kalbadevi, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli Parksite, Malvani and Madh-Malad areas is zero. Mumbai receives 3,950 million litres of water daily. Water is supplied through a large network of water channels. Those channels need regular cleansing from time to time. If not taken care of regularly, the said areas will likely receive contaminated water. Water can also be contaminated due to stagnation of flood water during the rainy season.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The Municipal Corporation should not just investigate but also make efforts to ensure that every citizen in Mumbai has access to clean water.
  • This is shameful for Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra and the financial capital of the country.
