Mumbai roads flooded at several locations : All 3 railway lines halted

  • Massive crowding of passengers at railway stations

  • Chest-deep water in many places

  • 350 citizens around Mithi River evacuated

Mumbai – Heavy rains overnight in Mumbai led to waterlogging in many low-lying areas. Roads were flooded at several places. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘red alert’ in Mumbai. The Central, Western and Harbour railway lines in Mumbai were also disrupted, due to which, a huge rush of passengers was seen at all the stations.

1. Andheri Subway was completely submerged. Veera Desai Road was submerged in waist-deep rainwater. 2 Mercedes cars were also submerged in it. Rainwater was accumulated all around that road.

2. Knee-deep rainwater accumulated in Hind Mata and Dadar TT areas, due to which traffic slowed down. The roads were converted into streams. A large amount of rainwater accumulated in the Swaminarayan Temple area of Mumbai.

3. Rainwater was also accumulated at various places on the Sion-Panvel highway. The road leading to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was also waterlogged.

4. Schools, colleges and private offices were given holidays. In some places, instructions were given to ‘work from home’.

5. Local trains were stranded at Dadar railway station due to waterlogging. At Wadala railway station, the tracks were not even visible. The railway administration had banned passengers from getting off and walking on the tracks; but still people were walking on the tracks.

6. About 350 citizens of the area were evacuated due to the rising level of the Mithi River.

7. Rainwater entered the Nehrunagar Police Station in Kurla. The L.B.S. Road here was also submerged in chest-deep water. A BEST bus was stuck in it.

8. Ghodbunder Road in Thane was completely flooded. In the Waghbil area of the city, water from sewage pipes had accumulated on the road. Mud and rainwater had accumulated outside many housing complexes.

9. The area around Dombivli railway station was flooded. Rainwater had entered the shops there. Rainwater submerged Bhiwandi’s vegetable market, wherein waist-deep rainwater was accumulated.

10. Knee-deep rainwater accumulated at the Dahisar checkpoint.

Minister Dr Uday Samant has thanked all those who helped in difficult times. ‘I am proud of all my Police officers and staff, municipal officers and staff, fire brigade personnel, all emergency services personnel, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) personnel, as well as charitable organizations,’ he said.
