Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Attacks on Bangladeshi Hindus continued during the tenure of the interim Government led by Mohammad Yunus in the last year. Notably, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, is playing an important role in growing radicalism in Bangladesh. The Yunus Government has allowed the ISI to operate freely. Taking advantage of this, the ISI is targeting Hindu temples in Bangladesh by deploying Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. Famous Bangladeshi journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury has claimed that Bangladesh is now becoming a base of ISI activities.

Hindu temples openly targeted

According to Shoaib Choudhury, Bangladesh is facing the most serious threat to its sovereignty and religious harmony. In particular, the country’s Hindu community is being systematically intimidated, and their temples are being targeted. Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, is behind this entire campaign. ISI has started expanding attacks on Hindus and anti-India terrorist activities in Bangladesh through Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Changes observed during the Yunus regime

Shoaib Choudhury said that on August 16th, an Islamic fundamentalist named Saiful Islam posted on Facebook about the construction of a mosque on the Sitakund mountain. He is receiving help from terrorist Haroon Izhar, who is associated with the terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami. Izhar’s family also has a history of involvement in terrorist activities.

Sitakund is the target

Terrorist Izhar and his associates are targeting the 11th-century Sitakund Chandranath Dham. It is a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists in South Asia. Thousands of devotees gather here every year in February for Shiv Chaturdashi. Chandranath Temple is situated on a hill 1,000 feet above sea level. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that the right hand of Goddess Sati fell here.

Extremist groups in Bangladesh have repeatedly tried to gain control of Chandranath Mountain and build a mosque on its summit. Many activities are being carried out here to deliberately humiliate Hindus and disrespect their traditions. There have also been several attempts to attack Hindu devotees here.

ISI is targeting several Hindu temples

The ISI’s plans are not limited to Sitakund. Their targets include the Medhas Muni Ashram in Chittagong, the Golden Temple in Bandarban District, and the Adinath Temple at Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. All these ancient and sacred Hindu sites are deeply connected to the spiritual heritage of South Asia, which Pakistan has been keeping a close eye on.

Demand for Sharia law

Terrorist Izhar has recently stepped up his campaign to impose Sharia law in Bangladesh, receiving support from radical groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami, Islamic Movement Bangladesh, and Hifazat-e-Islam. He is close to Jasimuddin Rahmani, the head of Ansar-al-Islam, an al-Qaeda affiliate.

ISI’s recruitment and smuggling

ISI is rapidly recruiting Rohingyas and people from Bihar. After recruitment, these youths are sent to training camps in Nepal and Pakistan. During the Yunus Government, ISI was given freedom to bring weapons and drugs into Bangladesh. The income from this is being used in terrorist operations.

Pakistan’s unending war against Hindu Dharma and Indian culture

According to Choudhury, Pakistan is conspiring to destabilise India’s eastern border by making Bangladesh a stronghold for jihadists. During the Yunus Government, Bangladesh became a launch pad for radical Islamist and terrorist forces. This is part of Pakistan’s continuous war against Hindu Dharma and Indian culture.

Editorial Perspective

Is the Indian Government going to make efforts to protect Hindus and temples in Bangladesh or will it neglect them similar to how Pakistani Hindus and temples were neglected?
