Chief Election Commissioner’s response to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi – Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had accused the Election Commission of vote rigging over the verification of the electoral rolls in Bihar. Chief Election Commissioner Dnyanesh Kumar responded to Gandhi’s allegations by holding a press conference on August 17. He demanded evidence of the accusations from Rahul Gandhi by filing an affidavit within 7 days.

Correction of the electoral rolls is the responsibility of all the Parties !

Dnyanesh Kumar said that the correction of the electoral rolls was a shared responsibility. In Bihar, their polling station officers (‘Booth Level Agents’ – BLOs) and political parties were working together. Therefore, maybe, for that reason, none of the political parties raised a single objection after August 1. The Election Commission agreed that rolls in Bihar were not correct. The Commission said that there were still 15 days to correct mistakes.

He appealed to all political parties to take responsibility.

Dnyanesh Kumar further asked if such allegations continued even after September 1, then who should be held responsible ? He clarified, saying every recognised party had 15 more days. He appealed to all political parties to show the mistakes before September 1, so that the Election Commission could correct them in time.
