Once spread across 125 districts, naxalism now is only in 20 districts

Prime Minister Modi’s address from the Red Fort on 15th August

New Delhi – There was a time when Naxalism was deeply rooted in more than 125 districts. Our tribal regions and youth were trapped in the grip of Maoist ideology. Today, we have been able to eliminate Naxalism from over 125 districts, 20 more left to be dealt with, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his candid address to the nation from the Red Fort on the 79th  Independence Day.

Key Points Highlighted by Prime Minister Modi

1. There was a time when mere mention of Bastar in Chhattisgarh evoked Naxalism, Maoism, bomb blasts, and gunfire. Today, that same Bastar, now free from Naxalism, sees its youths participating in the Olympics. When thousands of youths enter the sports arena shouting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” the entire atmosphere is filled with enthusiasm.

2. The areas once known as the “Red Corridor” are now transforming into a “Green Corridor” of development.

3. In the blood-stained, red-coloured areas in our map,  we have hoisted the tricolour of the Constitution, law, and development.

True Tribute to Birsa Munda in his 150th birth anniversary year

Prime Minister Modi said that this year marks the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. By liberating tribal areas from Naxalism and saving the lives of youths, we have paid true homage to Birsa Munda.

Who Was Bhagwan Birsa Munda?

Bhagwan Birsa Munda (1875–1900) was a revolutionary, tribal leader, and a people’s hero. He was born in what was then the Bengal Presidency (now the state of Jharkhand). He led a major uprising against British rule. Tribal people worship him as a divine figure.

Editorial Perspective

The Modi government has effectively controlled Naxalism over the past 11 years. Their efforts to curb both rural and urban Naxalism are commendable. However, at the root of all this lies Communism, which has the backing of an ‘ecosystem’ built over more than 100 years. The government and the Hindus must work relentlessly to eliminate communism, as Naxalism attacks both Dharma and the nation.
