NC, PDP, Congress observe ‘Black Day’ on August 5 to condemn abrogation of article 370

Article 370 was abrogated on 5th August 2019

Srinagar – August 5th, 2025, marked 6th anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. On this occasion, radical fanatic Muslim leaders in Kashmir are displaying their resentment. Farooq Abdullah, the president of the ruling National Conference and a three-time Chief Minister, called the decision taken 6 years ago ‘unilateral’ and ‘extra-Constitutional act’. He said that National Conference still strongly opposes this decision and it is still unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP (People’s Democratic Party) chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti posted on ‘X’, “August 5 marks a black day not only for Jammu and Kashmir but for the entire nation. On this day, the Constitution was subverted not by foreign hands, but from within, by a brute majority in the heart of our democracy. The unconstitutional abrogation of J&K’s special status was not an end; it was the beginning of a broader assault on Constitutional values.” (Mehbooba should be rewarded for this out of the world discovery – Editor).

Mehbooba added, “J&K was turned into a laboratory; its people were disempowered; its land was dispossessed; its demography was targeted.” (If this was the case, Mehbooba should first comment on why there was no development in Jammu and Kashmir for decades before 2019 – Editor). “What many saw as a local issue was a warning for all.”

Congress observes ‘Black Day’ in all 20 Districts of the region

Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra said that the party will observe August 5 as a ‘black day’ in all 20 Districts of the region to intensify the agitation for the restoration of the State.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik also described August 5th, 2019 as the ‘darkest day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir’. (This is an attempt by a party that is now on the verge of becoming a history, to show its existence – Editor).

People’s Conference President and former minister Sajjad Gani Lone said that August 5 will always be remembered as a “cruel reminder of the weakening of democracy and a despicable example of targeting select groups.”

What happened on August 5th, 2019 ?

On this day, the Union Government revoked Articles 370 and 35A, which gave special status and privileges to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. At that time, the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir (with a legislature) and Ladakh (without a legislature).

Editorial Perspective

These political parties have spent decades appeasing Muslims. They know very well that celebrating August 5 as a ‘Black Day’ means nothing but a joke !
