Sajjad Mir converts and marries Kashmiri Hindu Niha Raina

The very Muslim family that sheltered the Hindu family during the 1990 mass exodus betrayed the latter !

Srinagar (J&K) – The Raina family in Looswani village of Pulwama District is the only remaining Hindu family there. A neighbouring Muslim family deceived them. A youth named Sajjad Mir from that family trapped Niha Raina, a young Hindu woman, in a love affair, converted her to Islam, and then married her as per Islamic (Nikah) rites. Shockingly, just five days before this, Sajjad had married another Muslim woman. Following a complaint by the Hindu family, a case has been registered with the Police; however, Sajjad has not yet been arrested. A hearing in the Jammu & Kashmir High Court took place on 1st August regarding the case.

The full sequence of events :

1. In 1990, during the mass exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, the Muslims of Looswani village convinced the Raina family to stay back, saying, ‘Kashmiriyat (the unity of Hindus and Muslims in Kashmir) will protect you’. The Raina family trusted them.

2. Sajjad Mir, from the neighbouring Muslim family, used to refer to himself as Niha’s ‘brother’. However, that very Muslim family betrayed Rainas after 35 years.

3. Sajjad lured Niha into a romantic affair, incited her against her family, converted her, and alienated her from her family.

4. On 11^th May 2025, Sajjad married a Muslim girl, and on 16th May, he performed a Nikah with Niha. This marriage was not legally registered, nor was it conducted with the consent of her parents.

5. The Raina family lodged a complaint with the Police. During the investigation, the Police found a video in which Niha is seen being forcefully converted. However, in the video she says, ‘I am accepting Islam at my own will’. The video was submitted to the Court. Its circulation on social media raised questions about the Police’s handling of the matter.

6. Sri Ram Sena’s National President, Pramod Muthalik, and Yati Maa Chetnanand Saraswati condemned the incident and demanded that Niha be brought back, and a special security force be deployed to protect Kashmiri Hindus.

Protect Kashmiri Hindu women from Love Jihad : Panun Kashmir

Rahul Kaul of Youth for Panun Kashmir told Sanatan Prabhat, ‘During the genocide of Hindus in the 1990s, we had no one to turn to. This incident involving Niha Raina should awaken Hindus across India to unite. Pressure must be put on the State and Union governments to protect Hindus’. Kaul demanded that Hindu women in Kashmir be protected from Love Jihad, Sajjad Mir be arrested immediately, his Nikah with Niha be declared illegal, and the legal safety of Hindu girls be ensured.

Editorial Perspective

In the 1990s, ethnic cleansing and forced exodus significantly reduced the Hindu population in Kashmir. Now, instruments like terrorism and Love Jihad are being used to wipe out the remaining Hindus, as this case clearly demonstrates.
