What is the Malegaon bomb blast case ?

On September 29th, 2008, a bomb blast took place near a mosque in Malegaon. The Anti-Terrorism Squad had arrested 12 people in this case. In 2011, the case was transferred to the National Investigation Agency. The agency arrested 2 more people in this case. Thus, a total of 14 accused were arrested in the Malegaon bomb blast case. Sadhvi Pragya Singh, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, Major Ramesh Upadhyay (retd), Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Sameer Kulkarni, Ajay Rahirkar, Rakesh Dhawade,  Shivnarayan Kalasangra,  Jagdish Mhatre, Shankaracharya Swami Amritananda Devatirtha, Shyam Sahu, Praveen Takalki, Lokesh Sharma were arrested. Ramji Kalasangra and Sandeep Dange were declared absconding.

Out of the 14 accused arrested, Rakesh Dhawade,  Shivnarayan Kalasangra,  Jagdish Mhatre, Shankaracharya Swami Amritananda Devatirtha, Shyam Sahu, Praveen Takalki, Lokesh Sharma were released in 2017 due to lack of prima facie evidence against them. Later, the other accused were also released on conditional bail. This case went on for 17 years in 5 special Courts.
