Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expresses fear

Dibrugarh (Assam) – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while speaking here, expressed his fear that ‘If the current rate of population growth in the State continues, by the year 2041, the population of Muslims in Assam will be equal to that of Hindus’. Referring to the 2011 census, Chief Minister Sarma said that at that time, the total population of Assam was 3.12 crores. Out of this, the number of Muslims was 1.7 crores (34.22 percent), while the number of Hindus was 1.92 crores (61.47 percent).
Only 3 per cent of Muslims are native Assamese, while 31 per cent are Bangladeshi infiltrators
Chief Minister Sarma further said that only 3 per cent of Muslims are Assamese, the remaining 31 per cent Muslims are infiltrators from Bangladesh. If this situation continues, then in the censuses of 2021, 2031 and 2041, the share of Muslims will be 50 percent and the Hindu community will become a minority.
There are now 11 Muslim-majority Districts. In 1951, there were 3!
Chief Minister Sarma said that since 1951, Assam’s demography has undergone major changes. The number of Muslim-majority Districts has increased rapidly. In 2001, Assam had 23 Districts, out of which 6 were Muslim-majority. These include Dhubri (74.29 percent), Goalpara (53.71 percent), Barpeta (59.37 percent), Nagaon (51 percent), Karimganj (52.3 percent) and Hailakandi (57.63 percent). In 2011, the number of Districts increased to 27 and the number of Muslim-majority Districts to 9. These included Dhubri (79.67 percent), Goalpara (57.52 percent), Barpeta (70.74 percent), Morigaon (52.56 percent), Nagaon (55.36 percent), Karimganj (56.36 percent), Hailakandi (60.31 percent), Bongaigaon (50.22 percent) and Darrang (64.34 percent). Currently, the number of Muslim-majority Districts has increased to at least 11.
Jihad on the existence of Assam
Chief Minister Sarma termed this demographic shift not just a ‘Land Jihad’ but a ‘Jihad on the very existence of Assam’. He said that Muslim infiltrators were encroaching on Government land and forests, which was threatening the cultural, social and political identity of Assam. If this continues, the indigenous people of Assam will become a minority in the next 20 years.
9 lakh acres of land encroached upon
Chief Minister Sarma said that anti-encroachment campaigns had been launched earlier as well. Currently, an estimated 29 lakh bighas, or an estimated 9 lakh acres of land, have been encroached upon, and that land has been grabbed by Bangladeshi infiltrators and ‘Miyaan’ (Bengali Muslims). These infiltrators have land in their native Districts as well, yet they go hundreds of kilometres away and encroach on Government land, include their names in the voter list and gradually build up a large vote bank. Due to this, local political parties are afraid to take action against them.
The population changed due to protection from the Congress party
Chief Minister Sarma alleged that this process has been going on for many years under the protection of the Congress. Wherever there was a demographic shift, the Congress suddenly started getting more votes.
Editorial PerspectiveOnce this happens, Assam will become an Islamic State, and the fanatic Muslims there will demand that Assam become an independent country or join Bangladesh. To achieve this, Hindus will be driven out and massacred there, and Indian secular political parties and their leaders will support Muslims. |
