New Delhi – Supreme Court’s comment on hate-speech circulating on social media; “under the name of freedom of speech, there are attempts to justify everything, this trend is extremely dangerous. Hate-speech must face action, however, care should be taken that freedom of speech is not suppressed,” said B.V. Nagaratna and Augustine George Fransis Vishvanathan from division bench while hearing a petition filed by Vajhat Khan.
Citizens must refrain from spreading hateful content
The Supreme Court added, people must know their responsibility regarding freedom of speech. Avoid situations where the government needs to intervene. The content of hate- speech must have control, at the same time the citizens should also cooperate and refrain from circulating, supporting and encouraging such content.
Removing the post does not help
When a content is released on the internet, it is permanent; so, removing the post does not help. Freedom of speech is our fundamental right, but the misuse creates unnecessary complications in the court.
