Under ‘Project Vishnu’, India is Developing Hypersonic Missiles

(Hypersonic missiles are those that travel at more than 5 times the speed of sound)

New Delhi – India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is conducting research under ‘Project Vishnu’ to develop hypersonic missiles. As part of this initiative, work is underway simultaneously on 12 different hypersonic missile systems. These missiles will travel at speeds of Mach 8 — approximately 11,000 km/hr. With this capability, India will join the ranks of nations like the United States, Russia, and China.

1.The project also includes the development of an Interceptor Missile System, which will be capable of destroying both cruise and ballistic enemy missiles in mid-air.

2.Once launched, these missiles will have the ability to change their target mid-flight, and they will also be capable of evading enemy radar systems.
