BJP leader Praveen Nettaru murder case: Prime accused Abdul Rehman arrested

Kannur (Kerala) – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Abdul Rehman, the prime accused in the murder case of Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru, at Kannur International Airport on July 4. Rehman, who had been absconding, was apprehended by the police immediately upon arrival from Qatar.

1. Praveen Nettaru was brutally murdered on July 26, 2022, in Bellare village of Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada district. He was attacked with sharp weapons by goons linked to the Popular Front of India (PFI).

2. After several prime accused were arrested in the case, Abdul Rehman fled and had been on the run. He escaped to Qatar to avoid arrest.

3. Abdul Rehman was one of the six accused in the case for whom the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a cash reward. A reward of ₹4 lakh had been declared for information leading to his arrest.

4. In April this year, Abdul Rehman was also included among the four individuals named in a chargesheet filed by the NIA. The total number of accused in this case now stands at 28.
