Sequence of events
1. At around 6.00 p.m., Supriya Pathak and Shyam went to Bengali colony in Seemapuri and had reached 200 ft road in the area. They were to report on the illegal encroachments and slum settlements on the Government land. They had information about the presence of illegal huts, structures and illegal Bangladeshi residents besides Rohingya infiltrators.
2. Supriya and Shyam set up their camera in front of the mosque for video-shooting and recording after which a few local Muslims opposed them. There were arguments and later, women in burqas and underage children surrounded them. The mob of 20-30 people to begin with, turned into a mob of more than 200 aggressive people.
3. The mob mercilessly thrashed Supriya and Shyam with sticks and kicked them. Supriya was dragged on the road in which she sustained serious injury to her leg and had a fracture. She has wounds all over her body and has scars of thrashing. Shyam has also sustained deep wounds on his body and face. He was hit on his head too.
4. The Islamic extremists looted Supriya of her cell phone, camera, mike, battery and cash from her pocket while Shyam’s watch and wallet was taken away.
5. The reporters took shelter in a nearby bus of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC); but the mob gheraoed the bus; broke the glasses and pulled down both of them. The bus driver did not go to their help; in fact, he made them get down from the bus. The mob caused huge damage to the bus i.e. public property. The videos of this incident have become viral on social media. Both were treated in a hospital.
Fanaticism ideology is ingrained at young age – Senior journalist Ashok Shrivastava
Mr Ashok Shrivastava, a senior journalist has posted that the attack was pre-planned because the reporting by these reporters would have exposed the illegal activities. It is quite disturbing that Muslim women and minor children took active part in this attack. The women in burqas not only physically attacked but they hurled abuses and made religiously charged remarks. The involvement of minor boys in such violent acts highlights how deeply radical ideology has percolated into the younger generation.

Editorial PerspectiveIt is shameful for the Police that such assaults are taking place on news channel reporters in Delhi. It shows the religious fanatics have become bolder. Hindus should try to make preparations for self-defence instead of remaining under an illusion that Police would protect them in case of attack. |
