Amarnath Yatra Begins

2 soldiers deployed every 50 meters

Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir) – The Amarnath Yatra began on 3rdJuly. This 38-day pilgrimage will continue until 9thAugust. So far, 358,000 devotees have registered for it. Last year, this number was 5,58,000. It is being said that this year’s drop in numbers is due to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

There are two routes for the Yatra – Pahalgam and Baltal. Thousands of security personnel from police and several paramilitary forces have been deployed, and aerial surveillance mounted, along the yatra route. Currently, 50,000 soldiers are deployed along both these routes. From Srinagar to Baltal, a stretch of 110 km, two soldiers are posted every 50 meters. Last year, soldiers were stationed every 100 meters. Local people’s access to this route has been restricted.

Editorial Perspective

It is shameful for Hindus that in a Hindu-majority country, a Hindu religious pilgrimage has to be carried out under military protection for so many years. To change this situation, the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra is essential.
