India lost a few fighter jets in the beginning of Operation Sindoor because the targets were specifically terrorist bases

Claim by an army officer at Indian Embassy in Indonesia

Jakarta (Indonesia)/ New Delhi – In the beginning of Operation Sindoor Indian Air Force did not have permission to attack Pakistani army bases and their air defence system. They were ordered to target the basic facilities of terrorists. That was the reason India lost some of its fighter jets, stated Captain Shiv Kumar an army officer at Indian Embassy in Indonesia. That has sparked a controversy. Government has issued a clarification regarding this statement.

This statement by Captain Shivkumar was made during a seminar on 10th June, at a Jakarta University. The topic was , ‘Indo-Pak air warfare and Indonesia’s strategy for warfare’.  Controversy erupted when a video regarding this statement got circulated. Earlier, in an interview, the chief of the  three defence forces General Anil Chauhan had admitted losing some fighter jets.

Captain Shivkumar added, “later India changed the war strategy and targeted army bases. The air defence system of the enemy was destroyed.

Government misled the nation – Congress

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh reacted to the statement by Shivkumar, “earlier Anil Chauhan had made a few important revelations in Singapore. Now in Indonesia senior defence officers make such claims. However, it is intriguing that the Prime Minister refuses to head the All-Party meeting and take opposition in confidence. Why was the demand for special Parliament session rejected ?

Clarification by Indian Embassy

The Indian Embassy in Indonesia has clarified, “Shivkumar’s statement is out of context. The intention and the basic purpose of his presentation has gone wrong. The presentation says, Indian Army operates under political leadership, which is different from some of our neighbouring countries. The target for Operation Sindoor was the basic facilities of terrorists. India’s reaction was not provocative in any way.”
