Vedic Mantras should be engraved in our hearts not written on clothes

Sant Premanand Maharaj opposes the practice of wearing clothes that have Mantras written on them

Saint Premananda Maharaj

Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh) – Vrindavan’s Sant Premanand Maharaj has expressed his opposition to wearing of clothes which have Hindu Mantras written on them. He made this declaration as clothes with Shlokas from Hindu religious texts and Mantras written on them are being sold in the markets. He said this way of using the mantras is inappropriate and it should be stopped. They are Vedic Mantras. The Mantras should be engraved in the hearts.

The Holy words should not be used as a fashion accessory

Recently a devotee who came to meet Sant Premanand Maharaj was wearing a Kurta which had Shiv Mantra written on it. On seeing it Maharaj said devotees should chant the Vedic Mantra, and imprint them in their hearts; not displayed on their clothes. I request that such clothes are not worn because Mantras are written on them and that is inappropriate. The people of Kaliyug have started this practice but it is not appropriate. These are Vedic Mantras, they are to be received from a Guru and then mentally chanted. Hence do not buy such clothes and do not wear them. Holy words should not be used as a fashion statement.
