Two Indian passengers arrested in connection with the smuggling of 121 rare wild animals !

Action by the Air Intelligence Unit at Mumbai Airport !

Mumbai – The Air Intelligence Unit officers of the Customs arrested two Indian passengers coming from Thailand in connection with the discovery of 121 rare wild animals at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. They registered a case against them. They rescued all the animals except one that died, while the remaining animals will be sent to their place/country of origin.

1.They found two Sumatran striped rabbits, a spotted cuscus (an animal found in Australia), lizards (three alive, one dead), 115 green iguanas (an animal looking like a lizard; but is large) with the accused. Cuscus and green iguanas are among the protected species.

2.An NGO takes care of the animals. The accused had come to India from Bangkok. Customs officials suspect that international smugglers may be involved in this entire case. Its network has spread from Bangkok to countries in the African continent. Other accused are being sought in this wildlife smuggling case.

Editorial Perspective

Stringent punishment should be given to smugglers by searching the network of wildlife smugglers.
