Woman Gets 7.5 Years in Jail for Filing False Gangrape Case

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – In a landmark verdict, a local court sentenced Rekha Devi to seven and a half years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2.10 lakh for filing a false gangrape case. She had accused two men, Rajesh and Bhupendra, under gangrape charges and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. However, police investigations revealed the allegations were fabricated with the intent to trap the accused.

During the hearing, the court observed that the rising misuse of rape laws for monetary compensation is a disturbing trend. In response, it directed the District Magistrate to ensure that compensation in such cases be released only after police investigations are completed and chargesheets filed.

Additionally, the court ordered that half of the fine amount be paid as compensation to Rajesh and the family of Bhupendra, who died during the course of the trial.
