Decision taken due to Ahmedabad plane crash and Middle East war situation
New Delhi – Air India has reduced its international flight operations by 15%, according to an official statement. This decision will remain in effect until mid-July. The airline cited multiple reasons, including the Air India aircraft crash in Ahmedabad, the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, and ongoing safety inspections of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Air India operates 70 international flights daily using aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350. Due to the above-mentioned reasons, Air India has had to cancel a total of 83 flights in the last 15 days. On 12th June, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad. Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered a detailed inspection of Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircrafts. Out of the 33 Boeing 787s in Air India’s fleet, inspections of 26 aircraft have been completed, and these have been cleared to return to service.
