Iranian missile falls in a Palestinian-populated area in Israel, causing casualties
Tel Aviv (Israel) – Residents of the Gaza Strip have circulated images of wrecked buildings and charred vehicles hit by Iranian missiles in Israeli cities and some were hopeful the wider conflict could eventually end the war against Hamas.
Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv and the Israeli port city of Haifa before dawn on Monday, killing at least eight people, part of a wave of attacks by Tehran in retaliation for Israel’s strikes targeting its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
“The Iranian response was a surprise to me, to many Palestinians and the Israelis too. Everyone thought it would be mild and theatrical,” said Mohammad Jamal (Age 27) a resident of Gaza City.
Notably, after the attack in this city, residents of the nearby Jewish settlement of Mitzpe Aviv celebrated the event, according to a report broadcast by CNN. The report shows Jewish residents shouting slogans during the celebration. Israeli Member of Parliament Dr. Ahmad Tibi described this as a symbol of a racist culture. MP Naama Lazimi also strongly condemned the incident.
Nezmi Hijaji, a resident of Tamra, said, “We are treated like enemies in our own country. Even when our people die, celebrations are held.” Abu Rumi, the Mayor of Tamra, stated, “The government always has other priorities. Our city has never received funds for bunkers. The government shows no concern for our lives.”
Editorial PerspectiveIt has been revealed that during Hamas’ attack on Israel two years ago, Palestinians living in Israel had assisted in the attacks. So, if Jewish Israelis harbour resentment toward them, is it really surprising ? |
