Over 100 People Burned Alive in Nigeria Due to Land Dispute

Abuja (Nigeria) – Amnesty International Nigeria has reported that over 100 people were burned alive in a horrific incident in Nigeria. The incident occurred in the village of Yelwata in Benue State. Following the attack, many citizens are reported missing. Several families were locked inside their homes and set on fire. Some bodies were burned so severely that they could not be identified. Hundreds of people were injured in the incident, and many have yet to receive medical attention.

In Benue State, violence frequently erupts between the predominantly Muslim north and Christian-majority south over land use. Conflicts are common between herders seeking grazing land and farmers needing land for cultivation. Since 2019, more than 500 people have reportedly been killed in such clashes, and approximately 2.2 million people have been displaced.
