Santosh Parida

Bhadrak (Odisha) – A disturbing incident has come to light from Tihidi village in Bhadrak district, where a Hindu cow protector, Santosh Parida, succumbed to injuries on June 11 after being brutally attacked by a group of Muslim cattle smugglers nearly two weeks earlier.

The attack occurred on May 20, and Parida had been undergoing treatment in a hospital ever since. He passed away after 22 days of battling for his life. The incident has sparked widespread anger among the local Hindu population, leading authorities to suspend internet services in Bhadrak from June 12, 2025, to prevent the situation from escalating.

Police have arrested 12 individuals in connection with the attack. To maintain law and order, additional police forces have been deployed across the district.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken cognizance of the incident and announced ₹10 lakh in compensation to the victim’s family, along with a promise of strict action against the accused.

Editorial Note

Preventing cattle smuggling is the responsibility of the government. Yet, it is often devout Hindu citizens who put their lives on the line to stop it—and pay the ultimate price. The apathy of police and state machinery in such cases is unacceptable. A law must be enacted to dismiss and jail any local police officer found complicit or inactive in areas where such smuggling occurs.
