Fire set everywhere by protestors in Los Angeles (US)

There is opposition to action being taken against illegal immigrants

Los Angeles (US) – For the past three days, there have been protests against actions taken targeting undocumented immigrants. These protests have now taken a violent turn, with incidents of setting fire reported across the city streets. Protesters have hurled stones and petrol bombs at the police. The American national flag was burned, while the flags of Russia and Mexico were raised.

To bring the situation under control, the American National Guard used tear gas and rubber bullets late at night on June 8 to disperse the protesters.

Notably, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass opposed the deployment of the National Guard. This marks the first time in the U.S. that the National Guard has been sent into a state without the governor’s consent.

Los Angeles will be liberated soon – Donald Trump

President Donald Trump posted on X stating that the city has been overrun by illegal immigrants and will soon be liberated.

There are 1.35 million immigrants living in Los Angeles, representing various nationalities — including Indians. Since June 6, actions against illegal immigrants have been underway, leading to the detention of many individuals. This, in turn, sparked the ongoing protests in the city.

Editorial Perspective

It should not be surprising if a similar situation arises in the future, when India undertakes large-scale efforts to expel Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
