Urus will not be held at Vishalgad on Bakri Eid : Superintendent of Police, Kolhapur

  • Success to the fight by Hindu Janajagruti and Devout Hindu organisation

  • Permission to Shivarajyabhishek Day also denied

Kolhapur, Maharashtra – Kolhapur Superintendent of Police, Yogesh Kumar Gupta has issued an order that Vishalgad will not be available for any festival or celebration. Accordingly, at the Vishalgad, the Urus for sacrificing animal on 7th June and Shivrajyabhishek on 9th June following the Tithi, have been denied permission by the Police. On 6th June, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded action against any untoward incident and asked High Court orders to District Collector must be followed strictly. Also, on 5th June, during agitation in front of collectorate, Hindu Ekta Andolan member, Mr Nitin Shinde had warned about  disruption of Urus, if it took place.

2 days ago, High Court had permitted animal sacrifice on Bakri Eid at Vishalgad. The district administration moved the Supreme Court against this decision. Supreme court refused to hear the matter urgently. The Archaeological department had issued an order that there should be ban on animal sacrifice at Vishalgad, taluka Shahuvadi. According to Maharashtra Prachin Smarake ani Puratatva Sthale ani avashesh regulation, 1962, cooking and consuming food was prohibited in the vicinity of the forts. The Kolhapur District collector was asked to carry out the orders.

Not only Vishalgad, sanctity of all the forts across the State must be preserved – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

Vishalgad is a sacred site as the feet of Chhatrpati Shivaji Maharaj have touched it, this site has also been venerated due to the sacrifice of the heroic soldiers like Baji Prabhu and Phulaji Prabhu. All the forts in the State along with Vishalgad are a symbol of Hindu dignity. That makes it clear that not only Vishalgad, all the forts in the State are sacred and must be preserved that way. The Archaeological Department and the local administration must make efforts that there is no animal slaughter at any of these forts .

“Denial of permission to celebrate Shivrajyabhishek Day at Vishalgad is unfortunate !” – Deepak Desai, Hindu Ekta Andolan

Kolhapur – It is truly unfortunate that the administration has denied permission to celebrate Shivrajyabhishek Day at Vishalgad – in the very Maharashtra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ! In fact, seeking permission for the coronation day itself is unjustified, as celebrating it is the rightful expression of every Shiv devotee. We strongly condemn this act of the administration.

How much longer will Hindus be barred from celebrating such festivals by using excuses like “encroachment” and claiming that “law and order issues may arise”? The administration must also declare when Vishalgad will finally be completely free from encroachments, said Mr Deepak Desai, Kolhapur District President of Hindu Ekta Andolan.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Denying permission to Bakri Eid Urus was right, however denying permission to Shivarajyabhishek Day is not being secular, it is only an anti-Hindu stance. All devout Hindus must oppose this order.
  • If not at Vishalgad, should Hindus celebrate the Shivarajyabhishek Day at their homes ?
