New Delhi – The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Government of India has granted official approval to Elon Musk’s US-based company Starlink to provide satellite communication services in India, according to sources. However, media reports state that neither the government nor Starlink has made any formal announcement yet.
Despite receiving the licence, Starlink will not be able to offer internet services in India immediately, as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has not yet approved the allocation of satellite spectrum to any operator. Therefore, Starlink will have to wait for spectrum allocation before launching its services in the country.
