In Wars, Losses are Not Important, but Outcomes Are : CDS Anil Chauhan

General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)

Pune – As professional military forces, we are not affected by setbacks and losses. We have to understand what went wrong and rectify our mistakes. In a war, losses are not important but outcomes are, stated Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan while speaking on the topic ‘Future Wars and Warfare’ at a function held at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Pakistan should stop carrying out terrorist activities in India. The main thought behind ‘Operation Sindoor’ was to stop state-sponsored terrorism, he clarified.

The points presented by CDS Anil Chauhan

1. What happened in Pahalgam was inhumane. People were shot in front of their family members. They were killed in the name of religion. India has been a victim of maximum terrorist activities. About 20,000 people have been killed so far in terrorist attacks. (Why has not India done anything in such a case to eradicate terrorism ? It is shameful for all the Governments that have ruled India so far. – Editor)

2. India will no longer remain under the shadow of terrorism; nor will it fall for the nuclear threats. Both the countries (India and Pakistan) tried to create different types of capabilities; therefore, there was clearly a danger. There is, however, always a risk involved during the struggle, but if the risk is not taken, one cannot be successful.

3. ‘Operation Sindoor’ was an example of war strategy. War and politics were going on parallelly at the same time.

4. After targeting terrorist sites, India informed Pakistan about the attacks within five minutes. Pakistan was called up and warned of retaliating with higher capability if it dared to counter attack. Pakistan was told about India having more dangerous weapons than Pakistan. India’s only aim was to eliminate terrorists.

5. India foiled the drone and missile attacks by Pakistan. We knew that we had a very good anti-drone system; but we didn’t have to use our full capacity on the war ground.

6. Today’s war is not limited to the use of traditional strength but it is a process to achieve political goals through various diplomatic, informative, military and economic tools.
