Muslim population projected to reach 20% in the next 75 years

London (Britain) – A report by Buckingham University has projected that individuals of British origin could become a minority in Britain within the next 40 years. Based on current trends in immigration, birth rates, and mortality, the report estimates that the population of British origin, currently at 73%, will decline to 57% by 2050. By 2063, this group is expected to fall below 50%, making them a minority. The report also notes that the proportion of the Black population is likely to surpass 50% by that time. In cities like London and Buckingham, Britons are reportedly already in the minority.
By 2063, people of British descent could become a minority
According to a report by Buckingham University, the population of people of British origin—currently 73%—is projected to decline to 44% by 2075, and to just 33.7% by the year 2100. The report also highlights that the Black population, currently at 19.7%, is expected to rise to 34.8% by 2050. By 2063, individuals of British descent may become a minority, with those born abroad and their descendants forming the majority population by 2079.
Muslim population projected to reach 20% by the end of century
Currently making up about 7% of Britain population, Muslims are expected to comprise 12% by 2100. Projections suggest that by the end of the century, roughly one in every five people in Britain could be Muslim.
Islam : Britain’s 2nd largest religion
Islam remains the 2nd most practised religion in Britain after Christianity. As per the 2021 census, the Muslim population has crossed 4 million, up from 1.6 million in 2001. London has the highest Muslim population, accounting for approximately 15% of the city’s residents.
Implications for British politics and identity
Matt Goodwin, an emeritus professor at the University of Kent, remarked that the report; based on government census data; offers significant insight into the changing demographic landscape. He warned that continued immigration and demographic transformation may reshape Britain’s cultural identity, political dynamics, and policy direction.
Editorial PerspectiveLondon, the capital of Britain, already has a significant Muslim population and is led by a Muslim Mayor. If current demographic trends continue, similar shifts could occur across the country. To address these changes, some are calling for substantial reforms in Britain’s legal, foreign, and defense policies. |
