Outrageous statement by New Zealand’s Immigration Minister Erica Stanford
(Spam e-mail is unnecessary and dangerous e-mail)

Auckland (New Zealand) – I get a lot of unnecessary e-mails. For example, there are e-mails from people in India seeking advice on immigration. I never respond to them. New Zealand’s immigration Minister, Erica Stanford, recently said during a parliamentary session that the e-mails were “almost akin to spam”. The comments have sparked controversy in New Zealand, with many criticising his comments.
Stanford’s statement irresponsible and prejudiced ! – Lambasts Indian-origin MP Priyanka Radhakrishnan
Indian-origin MP of New Zealand Priyanka Radhakrishnan condemned the statement, saying that Stanford’s statement is irresponsible and prejudiced. Stanford’s comments create negativity about the entire community. Relations between India and New Zealand are very cordial. In this context, the minister has targeted a particular ethnic group and this is a condemnable incident.
‘Indian e-mails are not called ‘spam’! – Erica Stanford’s explanation

After the controversy, Minister Erica Stanford said in a statement that she did not call the e-mails ‘spam’. I said they’re almost like spam. I had commented on the many unnecessary e-mails that come to my personal e-mail account. It did not refer to e-mails from Indians.
