New Delhi – It has been decided to increase the supply of arms from India to Armenia, an enemy of Azerbaijan, which supported Pakistan during ‘Operation Sindoor’. India will supply the second supply of ‘Akash-1S’ missile system to Armenia. ‘Akash-1S’ is a surface-to-air missile. It was first supplied to Armenia in November 2024.
India is also working on a plan to supply Armenia with various types of weapons, including howitzers and Pinaka multiple launch rocket systems. Russia has been Armenia’s largest arms supplier for many years; but now there is a gap in relations between the two countries. Armenia purchased 43 percent of its total arms purchases from India between 2022 and 2024.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are neighbouring countries with bitter enmity. Azerbaijan has close ties with Pakistan and Turkiye, while Armenia has good relations with India. Since 2020, defence ties between the governments of India and Armenia have been steadily growing.
