‘No real impact, just widow-based vote politics’ : Prithviraj Chavan’s disgraceful comment on Operation Sindoor

Mumbai – “Even though the Government has named the operation ‘Sindoor’, it will have no real impact. The emotions of widows are being used to appease the vote bank,” said Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan.

In response, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “It is not appropriate to comment on this right now. In the current situation, we fully support every decision taken by the Government. We stand firmly behind it.”

BJP criticises Prithviraj Chavan

BJP national spokesperson Tuhin A. Sinha said, “Prithviraj Chavan’s statement is shameful. For years, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists have been wiping the ‘sindoor’ (vermilion) off the foreheads of our mothers and sisters. ‘Operation Sindoor’ signifies that after India’s strike, no terrorist will ever dare to commit such acts again. They will think ten times before doing anything similar.”

BJP MLA Ram Kadam added, “It is an old habit of Congress leaders to link such sensitive matters to cheap politics.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • It is well known that during its tenure, Congress did nothing to fight terrorism but rather encouraged it. In such a case, do Congress leaders even have the moral right to comment on anti-terror operations ?
  • While the name ‘Operation Sindoor’ evokes pride among all Indians, it seems to irk Prithviraj Chavan; revealing how little national pride he truly possesses.
  • Instead of fixating on the name, Congress must learn to view ‘Operation Sindoor’ in terms of what it has achieved nationally and internationally ! But then again, it is well understood that Congress will never do so.
