Announcement by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif
Islamabad (Pakistan) – If India withdraws from the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan will give a strong response. The World Bank is also a party to the Indus Waters Treaty, so India cannot make a unilateral decision. Pakistan will firmly respond to any action by India and will not succumb to any pressure, said Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. After the attack in Pahalgam, India has taken five major decisions against Pakistan, including the decision to revoke the Indus Waters Treaty. If revoked, India can choose not to release the water of the Indus River flowing from India into Pakistan.
1. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Water Resources Minister Mian Moeen Wattoo called this decision “immature” and “a diversion from domestic issues.”
2. Dr Qadir Magsi, leader of Pakistan’s Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, criticized India’s decision, claiming that by revoking the Indus Waters Treaty, India wants to trigger a civil war in Pakistan. He called it a conspiracy that could harm not only Pakistan but also India.

3. Magsi urged the Pakistan government to raise this issue at the United Nations. He claimed that India’s decision violates international law and UN regulations. He appealed to India to reverse the decision and noted that Pakistan is already going through a serious crisis.
Editorial PerspectiveIf this treaty is revoked, Pakistan will suffer more damage than from a nuclear bomb. India should have taken this decision years ago ! |
