So-called Mughal Descendant Demands Protection for Aurangzeb’s Tomb

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – Yakub Habeebuddin Tusii, who claims to be a descendant of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, has written a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, demanding legal protection and security for the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb located in Khuldabad, in this district.
Tusii has urged the UN Secretary-General to take cognizance of the matter and ensure that the tomb is safeguarded under both national and international law. (A person demanding protection for the tomb of Aurangzeb — who was responsible for the massacre of millions of Hindus and the destruction of thousands of temples — deserves to face legal consequences, not sympathy. – Editor)

In his letter, Tusii made the following key points :
The tomb is designated as a “monument of national importance” and is protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958. According to the act, unauthorized construction, modification, demolition, or excavation in or around a protected site is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.

Tusii urged the Indian Government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ensure comprehensive legal protection for the tomb in compliance with both national and international legal frameworks.
He highlighted that India is a signatory to the UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, 1972. Neglecting or damaging such monuments, he claimed, would be a breach of international obligations.
He alleged that films, media, and social media platforms are presenting distorted historical facts, provoking public sentiment (Aurangzeb’s historical cruelty is well-documented — Tusii appears to be attempting to whitewash history. – Editor), and leading to unnecessary protests, hate campaigns, and symbolic acts like the burning of effigies. (Tusii fails to mention that the incitement of communal tension and violence in places like Nagpur is often the result of provocative actions by radicalized groups. – Editor)
He argued that preserving cultural heritage is essential for educating future generations and called for international enforcement to that end. (This seems to reveal an agenda to glorify Aurangzeb’s oppressive legacy and indoctrinate future generations. – Editor)
Editorial PerspectiveMany Hindus believe that instead of protecting Aurangzeb’s tomb, its removal would automatically silence those making such demands. |
