Shockwaves for Turkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia !

Washington (United States) – The G4 nations, including India, have rejected a proposal to grant reserved representation to Islamic countries in the United Nations Security Council. The G4 stated that “Any proposal to grant permanent membership based on religion goes against the principles and rules of the United Nations.”
1. There has been a long-standing demand for reforms in the United Nations Security Council. The G4 countries have opposed the proposal for reserved representation for Islamic nations, put forth by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
2. On April 15, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, stated on behalf of the G4 nations that representation in the Security Council based on religion is unacceptable.
3. Without naming any country, Harish stated that introducing a religious angle would further complicate the ongoing reform process of the Security Council. He added that the G4 is a recommendation group focused on meaningful reforms and does not propose specific names for permanent membership. Instead, the G4 entrusts this responsibility to the United Nations General Assembly, urging it to carry out democratic reforms in the Security Council, including the addition of new permanent members.
Which countries are part of the G4?
The G4 includes India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan. These countries support each other’s bids for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
