Siliguri (Bengal) – 2 boys from ward number 4 had gone to fetch water from the Mahananda river for Charak Puja, but 5 Muslim boys sitting on the bank of the river threw bottles at the 2 Hindu boys. When the two opposed this, they were beaten up. They have been admitted to the hospital, informed local BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh. This incident took place on April 13. MLA Ghosh said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee created an atmosphere that currently, being a Hindu in Bengal is a sin.

One of the child victims, Manik Sarkar, said that after throwing the bottles, the people returned with dangerous weapons. Stones and sticks were seen lying at the scene. Many houses were also vandalised here. The attack was with Bricks and stones.

What is Charak Puja ?

In Bengal, as well as in South Bangladesh, Charak Puja is performed at the end of Chaitra month. Deity Shiva and Kalimata are worshipped at this time. The Bengali New Year is celebrated as soon as the puja is performed for a prosperous life.
