The period from Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Jayant Athavale’s childhood to His employment
There are several remarkable facets to the Divine mission of the Founder of Sanatan Sanstha, Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale. Here is a concise introduction to His extraordinary life.
Birth, family and education

Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale was born on 6th May 1942 (Vaishakha Krishna Saptami, Kaliyug Year 5044) to Shri. Balaji Vasudev Athavale and Smt. Nalini Balaji Athavale, both later attained Sainthood. He was born at the residence of His maternal grandfather Shri. Ganesh Janardan Vartak, in Nagothane (Taluka Roha, District Raigad, Maharashtra).
The family of Shri. Balaji Vasudev Athavale (fondly called Ti. Dada) lived in two rooms of just 10×10 feet in Girgaon, Mumbai, in a modest chawl called ‘Shri Samarth Sadan’. Ti. Dada worked as a teacher at the Aryan High School in Girgaon, Mumbai.
Ideal parents who nurtured spiritual practice in their children

Ti. Dada (Father) and Ti. (Smt.) Tai (Mother) instilled sattvikata (Spiritual purity) and spiritual practice in all five of us siblings from childhood. My father had an extensive collection of writings on Spirituality. I published five Booklets based on these. In 1987, Saint Bhaktaraj Maharaj (fondly called Baba) visited our home and said, ‘Dada is a Saint !’
The virtues I possess were not cultivated through deliberate effort. Most of them have been inherited from my father and mother, as well as ingrained in me through their sanskars. Additionally, I have acquired many other qualities from my four brothers. Most people believe that ‘ancestral wealth’ refers to material possessions such as a house, money, etc. However, for us brothers, our true ancestral wealth lies in the values and interest in sadhana (Spiritual practice) that we received from our parents. This inheritance is far more precious than material wealth. It will not only benefit us, but will also serve as a valuable asset for many generations of seekers to come. I am deeply grateful to my parents for giving me life.
My eldest brother, the renowned Paediatrician Vaidyacharya Sadguru (Late) (Dr) Vasant Athavale, also performed sadhana and attained Sainthood. He authored 50 books – 16 for Parents, 33 related to Ayurveda, and one about me.
My second elder brother, Shri. Anant Athavale (an engineer), attained Sainthood in June 2019. He wrote two books : ‘Gita Gyan Darshan’ and ‘Understanding Various Aspects of Spiritual Science’.
My fourth brother, (Late) Dr Suhas Athavale, performed vyashti sadhana (Individual spiritual practice). He was the embodiment of virtue and had attained a spiritual level of 65%.
Our youngest brother, Dr Vilas Athavale, also is at a spiritual level of 65%. He actively participates in the work of Pujya Devananda Swamiji in Haridwar.
At the time, my second brother, Shri. Anant (Pujya Bhau), was not in Mumbai, so all other family members, except him, received the Guru Mantra from Saint Bhaktaraj Maharaj.
(It is extremely rare in the present Kaliyug for all brothers in one family to progress spiritually. Despite being highly educated, Dr Jayant Athavale’s brothers lived a worldly life while performing spiritual practice and progressed significantly in Spirituality. Reflecting on these five brothers inevitably brings to mind the five Pandavas, who were devoted to God. – Editor)
