Washington, D.C. (USA) – U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance recently praised Pakistan in Switzerland, drawing sharp criticism from two lawmakers of the ruling Republican Party, Rick Scott and Tim Sheehy. They said that the very countries Vance was praising — Pakistan and Qatar — have provided safe haven to terrorists and appear more interested in supporting Iran’s terrorist activities than in promoting stability.

Florida Congressman Rick Scott wrote on X, “It should now be clear to everyone who our real friends are. Pakistan and Qatar have harboured terrorists for years. Rather than helping to establish peace, both countries currently seem more interested in supporting Iran’s decades-old terrorist campaign.”

Scott added that while an agreement with Iran may be possible, one thing must remain non-negotiable: Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.

Montana Congressman Tim Sheehy, in an interview with Fox News, accused Pakistan of hiding Osama bin Laden for ten years. He said that if Pakistan and Qatar were being included in diplomatic discussions, then the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Saudi Arabia should also be involved.

He described those three countries as America’s true friends and allies in the Middle East. Sheehy further alleged that Qatar has financed terrorist organisations for decades, while Pakistan, through its Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has funded insurgent groups hostile to the United States. Under such circumstances, he said, it would be entirely wrong to regard them as neutral mediators.

Vance said, “I love Pakistan.”

Referring to Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, he remarked, “Munir welcomed me in Islamabad. I often joke that there are two very important people in my life — one Indian and one Pakistani. The Indian is my wife, and the Pakistani is Field Marshal Munir.”

Vance also said that over the previous three months, he had spoken with Munir more often than with anyone else.
