‘India will never spend money on such things’, Trump reportedly said while rejecting the proposal!

Vice President J.D. Vance had proposed sending Indian troops for a peacekeeping mission in the Ukraine–Russia war

Washington (USA) – A new book has claimed that US President Donald Trump rejected a proposal by Vice President J.D. Vance to deploy Indian troops as part of a peacekeeping mission during the Ukraine–Russia war. According to the book, Trump remarked, “The Indians will never do that. They are not going to spend money on such things.”

1. According to the book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, a meeting was held in the Oval Office on 30 January 2025, ten days after Trump assumed office, to determine the United States’ role in the Ukraine–Russia war. Retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, was present at the meeting.

2. Kellogg’s proposed “Trump Historic Peace Agreement” plan included British, French and Dutch peacekeeping forces. However, Vance opposed deploying troops from NATO countries. He argued that sending NATO forces could further provoke Russia, as Russia had already expressed distrust of the alliance.

3. Vance then asked whether troops from countries outside Europe could be used for the mission and suggested India as a possible contributor. Trump opposed the suggestion. He reportedly added, “I have a close relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I like him very much and would like to meet him.”
