New Delhi – The US has responded to allegations of mistreatment to Indian refugees while deporting them. ‘Sikh migrants were not forced to remove their turbans. Women and children were not shackled,’ US officials have clarified.
Last month, the Trump administration took strict action against illegal immigrants in the United States. Hundreds of Indians living in the United States illegally were deported back to their homeland in three US military aircraft. At that time, Indian citizens were reportedly mistreated on the plane. The Indian Government formally expressed concern to the US about this. India had strongly objected to reports that Sikh refugees were forced to remove their turbans, and that women and children were shackled.

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Rajya Sabha that US officials have responded to the concerns they raised. He clarified the relevant points and also said that only vegetarian meals were served to the refugees during the flight.
