Sindhudurg : Illegal mattress factory owned by Abdul Hameed razed to the ground

Mattress factory before it was demolished

Oros (Dist. Sindhudurg) – The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has razed an illegal mattress factory built without permission from the administration at Oros, on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, using a bulldozer and under Police protection. The factory, owned by Abdul Hamid Subrati, was obstructing traffic and was also dangerous. Abdul Hamid had built the factory without taking any permission from the Gram Panchayat, National Highways Authority, Town Planning Office and Revenue Department.

Building razed to the ground after the action

The factory was dangerous for traffic and close to the main power line

1. Abdul Hamid had constructed this illegal structure at Oros Budruk Survey No. 37, Plot No. 33, adjacent to the highway under the main power line.

2. Mattresses and furniture were being manufactured in large quantities in this factory. Customers who came to the factory to buy furniture and mattresses would park their vehicles on the highway.

3. Since this section of the highway is curved, a dangerous situation had arisen here, and many accidents had occurred on the highway.

4. Though the Oros Budruk Gram Panchayatsent a notice to Abdul Hamid, he did not remove the illegal construction. Due to this, the National Highways Authority took action.

5. A large amount of furniture and mattresses were taken out on March 13th and the factory building was later demolished.
