‘Will play Holi at the Aligarh Muslim University irrespective of whether permission is received or not’ : Akhil Bharatiya Karni Sena

Aligarh Muslim University denies permission for ‘Holi Milan’ event

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) – Tension has arisen in the Aligarh Muslim University premises after the university administration refused to allow students to celebrate Holi on March 10th . A programme called ‘Holi Milan’ is planned here on March 10th ; however, as the university has denied permission for this programme, Hindu organisations are preparing for a protest. In the meantime, the office bearers of the Akhil Bharatiya Karni Sena took out a march and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister at the District Collector’s Office.

1. Karni Sena’s Gyanendra Singh Chauhan said that on March 10th , on the occasion of Rangabhari Ekadashi, Holi will be played with Hindu students in the university and a ‘Holi Milan’ will also be held, irrespective of whether the permission is received for this or not. If Iftar (event of breaking the fast during Ramzan) and ‘Eid Milan’ can be organised in this university, then why not a ‘Holi Milan’ ?

2. In this regard, the sub-divisional officers said that the university administration should give permission for any programme on the university premises. Discussions are underway on this.

Students can play Holi as usual; but ‘Holi Milan’ will not be allowed : University Administration

The university administration says that for years all the students have been playing Holi among themselves in the hostel rooms and halls. There is no restriction on it and no permission is required for it; however, permission will not be given for a separate ‘Holi Milan’ programme.

Eid will not be allowed to be celebrated either : Warns former Mayor and BJP leader Shakuntala Bharti

Former Mayor and BJP leader Shakuntala Bharti said, “This is Hindustan, not Pakistan. The university is not anyone’s personal property. The way these people are saying ‘Holi Milan’ will not be allowed’, I am saying that Eid will not be celebrated there either. This is a clear warning. This is Hindustan. We will not allow anyone to play with the sentiments of Hindus or anyone else. Holi is a symbol of our unity, a symbol of love, a symbol of sacrifice, so stop these dirty acts (i.e. denying permission for Holi Milan programme). Today I will inform Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about this. I warn you that Holi must be celebrated here. The administration should display wisdom and allow Holi celebrations.

Editorial Perspective

Aligarh Muslim University runs on the grant from the Union Government. If celebrations are organized here on the occasion of Eid, then Hindu celebrations should also be organised. If not, the ‘secular’ Government should stop the grant to this university.
