Mention by Allahabad High Court in the order after objections from Hindu Party’s advocate Pujya Hari Shankar Jain

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – In a case where the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal was the former Shri Harihar Temple, the Allahabad High Court ordered the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to visit the mosque and see how much painting work needs to be done before Ramzan. The Archaeological Survey of India sought protection; but the court rejected it and said that it was not necessary. Hindu Party advocate Pujya Hari Shankar Jain said, ‘Hindu symbols in the mosque can be erased for the sake of painting. The court should not consider this structure as a mosque only.’ Then the court wrote in the order “so-called mosque”. It also assured that Hindu symbols will not be harmed.
The Archaeological Department team inspected the mosque on 28th February, and submitted a report to the court. The court gave this order on the application of the mosque’s management committee to carry out painting and other work in the mosque for the holy month of Ramzan, which begins on 1st March; but the Police and the Archaeological Department opposed this.
The court said in its order that religious harmony should be maintained during the month of Ramzan and the interests of both parties should be protected.
