Information about 12 forts – sea forts in India sent to UNESCO !
Mumbai, April 21 – TheGovernment of India has sent information to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) on 12 forts, including 11 in Maharashtra and one in Tamil Nadu, for world heritage status. UNESCO has received the names of buildings from all over the world for world heritage status. The voting process will be held in July 2025 in Paris, France. Decision regarding whether forts nominated by Maharashtra will get heritage status will be taken in July, an official of the Maharashtra Archaeology Department told a correspondent of the daily ‘Sanatan Prabhat’.
UNESCO meets in July every year to recognise names from different countries of the world for ‘World Heritage’ status. Representatives of 21 UNESCO countries vote for it. The selected structures are given world heritage status. UNESCO conference was held in India last year. Representatives from the Archaeology Survey of India and the Government of Maharashtra will be present for the conference to be held in Paris. One proposal can be sent from each country every year for ‘World Heritage’. The names of the state protected fortsof Salher (Nashik),Pratapgarh (Satara),Rajgad (Pune),Khanderi (Raigad) from India, and those offorts- sea forts of Raigad (Raigad), Sindhudurg (Sindhudurg), Vijaydurg (Sindhudurg), Suvarnadurg (Ratnagiri), Panhala (Kolhapur), Shivneri (Pune), Lohgad (Pune) and Jinji in Tamil Nadu have been sent to UNESCO this year.
