(Allahu Akbar means ‘Allah is great’)

Paris (France) – In the city of Mulhouse, France, a man launched a knife attack while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during a protest. One person was killed, and several others were injured, including two Police officers who sustained severe injuries, while three others were lightly wounded. Following the attack, Police cordoned off the entire area and apprehended the Islamic terrorist, who was identified as an Algerian national. French President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as an “Islamic terrorist attack” and reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from French soil.

Key points of the incident,

1. During the attack, the assailant primarily targeted Police officers. A 69-year-old Portuguese citizen intervened to protect them but was fatally stabbed. The man died in the attack.

2. The attacker was already on France’s terrorism watch list, which was established after the 2015 terrorist attacks on the Charlie Hebdo office and a Jewish supermarket.

3. He had previously been convicted of crimes related to supporting terrorist activities or groups. Authorities were attempting to deport him to Algeria; however, Algeria refused to accept him on ten different occasions.
