Meta removes 2 Facebook and 3 Instagram accounts of devout Hindu MLA T Raja Singh

Action taken for policy violations

New Delhi – Social media giant Meta has removed 2 Facebook accounts and 3 Instagram accounts associated with BJP’s devout Hindu MLA T Raja Singh from Hyderabad (Telangana). The action follows a report by India Hate Lab (IHL) which alleged that, despite an official ban, T Raja Singh and his supporters were making hate speeches against Muslims on social media. The removed Facebook page had over 10 lakhs followers, while the deleted Instagram accounts had more than 155,000 followers combined.

This is an attack on freedom of expression – T Raja Singh

In a statement released in response to Meta’s action, T Raja Singh said, “It is extremely unfortunate that Facebook and Instagram have shut down the accounts of my family, friends, activists, and supporters. This is ‘selective censorship’ targeting Hindus. It is an attack on freedom of expression. Earlier, my official account was wrongfully targeted based on a complaint by Rahul Gandhi. Now, even those sharing my videos are being silenced.”

Violation of our policies – Facebook

A Facebook spokesperson stated in a press release, “We have banned T Raja Singh from Facebook because he violated our policies. Our platform prohibits those who promote or engage in violence and hate. The process of evaluating potential violators is extensive, and therefore, we have decided to remove his account.”

Action taken over anti-Muslim statements

T Raja Singh was banned under Meta’s ‘Dangerous Individuals and Organisations’ policy due to his history of allegedly provocative and anti-Muslim remarks. As a result, he has been permanently barred from maintaining any official presence on these platforms, and any new pages, groups, or accounts representing him will also be removed.

Editorial Perspective

Such policies seem to apply only to devout Hindus, while no action is taken against Jihadi terrorists, their supporters, as well as so-called secularists and communists with anti-Hindu agendas, even when complaints are filed against them. Given this, the Indian Government must intervene.
