₹3 Lakh Crore Turnover at Maha Kumbha Mela : Claim by Indian Merchant Chamber of Commerce

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – The Indian Chamber of Commerce has reported that Maha Kumbha Mela, which commenced on January 13, 2025, has generated a staggering turnover of ₹3 lakh crore—a record-breaking figure.

Praveen Khandelval, Secretary General and Member of Parliament (BJP), stated that Maha Kumbha, not only boosted religious tourism but also created significant employment opportunities. “This event has beautifully aligned faith with economic growth,” he remarked.

Initially, estimated 40 crore devotees and ₹2 lakh crore in turnover. However, the actual numbers have far exceeded expectations, with over 60 crore devotees and ₹3 lakh crore in economic activity. The impact of Maha Kumbha extends beyond Prayagraj, as devotees are also visiting Varanasi and Ayodhya, leading to a substantial boost for the hospitality and service industries in these cities. The ripple effect of the event has benefited the entire Uttar Pradesh economy.

₹7,500 Crore Investment for Maha Kumbha

To ensure the smooth execution of Maha Kumbha, the Uttar Pradesh government has invested approximately ₹7,500 crore. This includes the development of roads, flyovers, and underground tunnels. Additionally, ₹1,500 crore has been allocated specifically for strengthening essential infrastructure and basic amenities.
