Islamabad (Pakistan) – ‘Balochistan may announce its independence from Pakistan at any time. Five to seven districts of Balochistan may declare their independence. In 1971, Bangladesh separated from Pakistan and became independent. If the current rulers do not change their mindset, a similar situation may arise again’, Pakistani MNA Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman said in Pakistan’s National Assembly. This statement has sparked discussions within Pakistan and in political circles across Asia.
Rehman further said that if the districts in Balochistan declare their independence, the United Nations would immediately recognise them, and Pakistan would be forced to surrender to these developments.
Situation in Balochistan
Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan in terms of area, but it lags in population. Only 2% of Pakistan’s total population resides in this region. The Kurram area in this region has witnessed several violent incidents between the Shia and Sunni communities. Since November 2024, in the past four months, more than 150 citizens have lost their lives due to the violence in this area.
