US President Trump pauses the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

A case is registered in the US against industrialist Adani under this law

Washington (US) – US President Donald Trump has paused the 50-year-old ‘Foreign Corrupt Practices Act’ (FCPA). With this, paying bribes for business abroad will no longer be a crime. Under this law, a case was registered in the US against Indian industrialist Gautam Adani. It is alleged that he bribed Indian officials. Notably, Donald Trump took this decision 2 days before the visit of Prime Minister Modi to the US.

Trump has ordered that the courts should stop prosecuting Americans accused of bribing foreign officials to get or retain business in other countries.

Last year, 8 people, including industrialist Gautam Adani, were accused of planning to pay bribes worth around Rs 2.29 crore in the US and of collecting money by lying to American investors and banks.
